Geelong captain Joel Selwood has confirmed that three-game ruckman Ryan Abbott will take on the might of Melbourne’s Max Gawn on Friday night, instead of the more experienced Rhys Stanley.
Speaking on the Hot Breakfast this morning, Selwood said that Abbott will be given “first crack” at Gawn come the first siren of the elimination final.
Abbott’s likely finals debut spells bad news for Rhys Stanley, who has struggled with a calf injury in the back half of the season.
He missed the round 20 clash with Richmond, only to come back and reinjure the calf against Hawthorn the next week.
Stanley missed the last two games against Fremantle and Gold Coast at Kardinia Park.
Selwood also talked about the feeling in Geelong around finals time, his own impeccable resume and getting engaged.
